Spring is Coming

Beauty:
Have you ever noticed that we appreciate things more when we have experienced a deep contrast? A hot shower feels better and more restorative when we are cold to the bone, or aching with fever. A quiet evening at home is more relaxing when our schedule has been a mad rush from one noisy, demanding place to another. A good meal tastes even better when we are really hungry.

That’s what spring is like. Warmth after freezing cold. Fresh running water after still, ice-locked landscapes. Bright Sunlight after cloudy grey skies. And Color! Take the time to tune your eyes to the colors of spring, and you will receive great return for the time invested!

How to Plan for Endless Color in your Landscape
Are you one of those people who like fresh color in their landscape ALL THE TIME? Well-planned perennials and flowering shrubs can bring some of that effect, but for really concentrated color, we must rely on Seasonal Flower Plantings and Seasonal Displays. Here is how others are making Endless Color a reality.

  1. March-May: Spring Flowering Bulbs such as Daffodils, Tulips, Hyacinths, and Grecian Wind Flowers look wonderful after a long, grey winter…but of course, these must be ordered and planted in the fall to flower in the spring.
  2. March-May: Supplement your Flower Bulbs with Pansies, which bring a blaze of yellow, purple, and blue to pots and bed spaces
  3. May-October: Annual Flowers, such as Geraniums, Impatiens, and a thousand other tropical species, can be grown in our area during the summer months. The color combinations are endless
  4. September-November: Fall Mums and Harvest Displays of Pumpkins, Squash, Corn Shocks, and Bittersweet can lend a “thanksgiving” air to this golden time of year.
  5. November-January: Christmas Greens, Red Berries and Christmas Lights bring cheer to this time of year, especially when augmented by pure white snow.
  6. January-February: OK, so no color is available outdoors at this time of the year. Save your flower budget for February, and invest in indoor flowers such as Cyclamen, Azaleas, or Hydrangeas. If purchased every two weeks, these can carry you through the Winter Doldrums to the happy colors of Spring.
